What information Snow Day Tracker handles, and why

Last updated: October 8, 2026

Information We Collect

Locations you search for. When you enter a ZIP code, postal code or city name, our server uses it to look up that location's coordinates and weather forecast. Each prediction is logged with the location, the school type you chose, the result and your IP address. We use this log to limit how many predictions one visitor can request per hour, to prevent abuse, and for overall usage statistics.

Community prediction votes. Votes are counted anonymously. To stop the same visitor voting more than once a day for the same location, we store a one-way hash of your IP address combined with the date and location, not the IP address itself.

Contact form. If you message us, the name, email address, subject and message you enter are stored in our database so we can read and reply to them. We don't add you to any mailing list.

Technical information. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records technical data such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit and the time of each visit, for security and to keep the site running.

Cookies

The site sets one essential session cookie (PHPSESSID) that keeps forms working during your visit. It is deleted when you close your browser.

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Third-Party Services

We don't sell or rent personal information to anyone.

Children's Privacy

Many of our visitors are students. You can use the predictor without giving any personal information. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, let us know and we'll delete it.

How Long We Keep Information

We keep contact messages, prediction logs and vote records only as long as we need them for the purposes above. Server logs are kept for a limited time by our hosting provider.

Your Choices and Rights

You can ask us to access or delete personal information you've sent us. Depending on where you live, laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or Canada's PIPEDA may give you additional rights. To make a request, use our contact form.

Changes to This Policy
